Following the interest generated by our Photo Exhibition poster, we’ve put together some more information for anyone who would like to take part.
This year’s exhibition, organised by Friends of Borsdane Wood & Rayner Park, has the theme The Natural World and is open to local photographers of all experience levels.
The exhibition will take place at St John’s Church, Hindley, on:
- Saturday 12 September 2026
- Saturday 19 September 2026
- Saturday 26 September 2026
The exhibition will be open to visitors from 11am–3pm each Saturday.
What can I exhibit?
Photographers may submit up to 15 photographs for display. You are very welcome to exhibit fewer than this.
Printed photographs are preferred for the main exhibition, but framing is not essential. Mounted or unframed work is perfectly acceptable provided it can be displayed safely.
A limited number of easels will also be available. If you think you will need one, please let us know beforehand so that these can be allocated as fairly as possible.
We would encourage exhibitors to label their work with their name and, where appropriate, the title of the photograph. A short caption or location can also be included if you feel it adds something to the image.
Setting up the exhibition
This is a community exhibition and exhibitors will be expected to help us put it together.
Tables used for displaying photographs will need to be collected from the church hall next door and moved into the church before the exhibition begins. At the end of the exhibition they will need to be returned to the hall.
We will therefore be asking exhibitors to help with:
- setting up the exhibition before it opens;
- collecting and positioning display tables;
- arranging their own photographs;
- helping to keep the exhibition staffed;
- taking down displays at the end of the exhibition; and
- returning tables and other equipment to the church hall.
Exact arrangements and setup times will be confirmed with exhibitors nearer the event.
Helping during the exhibition
We would like everyone exhibiting work to be available for at least one of the three Saturdays, where possible, to help us run the exhibition and welcome visitors.
You won’t be expected to spend all three Saturdays there, but this is intended to be a shared community event rather than an exhibition staffed entirely by a small number of Friends-group volunteers.
Having photographers present also gives visitors the opportunity to talk about the images, locations and techniques behind the work, which we hope will be an enjoyable part of the exhibition.
Digital submissions
If printing photographs is difficult, we are also accepting digital submissions.
These will be compiled into a slideshow and displayed on a 32-inch television at the front of the church during the exhibition.

This gives us time to prepare, sequence and test the slideshow before the exhibition opens the following Saturday.
For best results on the television:
- 1920 × 1080 pixels (16:9) is ideal;
- larger images are also welcome and can be resized for the slideshow;
- JPEG images are preferred;
- landscape images will make the fullest use of the screen;
- portrait and square photographs are absolutely welcome and will be displayed without unnecessarily cropping the image.
Please do not enlarge a small image simply to reach 1920 × 1080. Sending the best-quality original JPEG you have is preferable.
Image order and captions
If your photographs need to appear in a particular sequence, please make this clear when submitting them.
The easiest method is to number the filenames, for example:

03-Autumn-Leaves.jpg
If you would like captions to accompany your photographs, please include a simple list in the email matching each filename to its caption, for example:
01-Woodland-Morning.jpg – Early morning light in Borsdane Wood
02-Kestrel.jpg – Kestrel hunting over the fields
Short captions are best. A title, location or one-sentence description is plenty.
Looking after your work
We will, of course, take reasonable care of work displayed during the exhibition and will remain vigilant while the exhibition is open.
However, all photographs, frames, easels, equipment and other items are brought to and displayed at the exhibition at the owner’s own risk.
Friends of Borsdane Wood & Rayner Park, its members and volunteers cannot accept responsibility or liability for any loss, theft or damage to photographs, equipment or other property associated with the exhibition.
Please make sure that any physical work you bring is clearly identifiable as yours, and avoid leaving valuable photographic equipment in the church when the exhibition is not staffed.
Exhibitors will be responsible for collecting their photographs and other display items at the end of the exhibition.
